Understanding the Persian Cat Breed
Persian Cat Breed Characteristics & Temperament
A Persian cat, also called the Persian Longhair, is a medium cat with a long, dense, high-shedding double coat, a round face, and a quiet, placid temperament. Most weigh 7–12 pounds, with males typically larger, but all that fur makes the body read bigger than it is.
The round face comes in two real versions: a modern, flat, snub-nosed peke-face and a traditional doll face with a short but visible muzzle. Both are Persians. The difference matters for recognition, health, and the words you use when talking to a breeder, so the full story comes next.
This is a low-energy, ground-dwelling lap cat built for calm indoor life, not noise, rough play, or high shelves. A Persian is a strong match for a quiet household that wants affection and accepts daily grooming; it is a poor match for boisterous chaos or anyone looking for a low-maintenance coat.
